Architecture and Art in Dialogue
The St.-Jakobs-Platz is located in the middle of Munich's Old Town - a new city square that has been inviting visitors to linger since 2006. It is characterized by the Israelite Religious Community (Jewish Center), the Ohel-Jakob-Synagogue, the Jewish Museum Munich as well as the Münchner Stadtmuseum. The area is also home to special projects of contemporary art in public space, which we would like to explore during our tour: for example, the sound stones in the alley by Andrea Schmeing-Häusler, the Passage Red Blue by Keith Sonnier or the memorial against exclusion by Ulla von Brandenburg. Art that becomes part of the urban space and the public gaze always challenges the viewer and interacts with the surrounding architecture. We want to explore this interaction in the context of the ARCHITECTURE AND ART Tour in the city center.
We will also visit the cooperative exhibition (Not) A Doll’s House. Traditional Roles and Brand-New Images. The exhibition with contemporary art from the Sammlung Goetz Collection in the Puppentheater/Schaustellerei Collection opens an interdisciplinary dialogue between two art collections. For more than 30 years, the Puppentheater/Schaustellerei Collection was present on site as a permanent exhibition of puppet history and has thus become history itself. The cooperation between the Sammlung Goetz and the Puppentheater/Schaustellerei and Photography Collections of the Münchner Stadtmuseum takes the impending closure and general renovation of the building as an opportunity to juxtapose the collections and open them up to a dialogue with works of contemporary art. In conversation with the curators, we learn more about the exhibition and take a look at the history and future of the Münchner Stadtmuseum.
ARCHITECTURE AND ART IN DIALOGUE is a cooperation of the Sammlung Goetz, FILOMELE and guiding architects munich.
