Architecture and Art in Dialogue

Munich's Kunstareal, with its 18 museums and exhibition centres, more than 40 galleries and cultural institutions and six universities within walking distance of each other, is unique in Germany. The Pinakothek der Moderne has a special status here. Built in 2002 according to plans by architect Stephan Braunfels, it now houses four museums of art, graphics, architecture and design under one roof. This makes the museum one of the largest collection centres in Europe.

The Sammlung Goetz is on display from 13 June to 7 September 2024 with the collaborative project Gutai. Sammlung+ Goetz cooperation project at the Pinakothek der Moderne. In Room 23 of the Sammlung Moderne Kunst, it is presenting a selection of paintings by the Japanese artist group Gutai from its own collection. These enter into a dialogue with the works in the neighbouring rooms, which focus on German abstraction at the beginning of the 20th century.

The second stop on our tour takes us to the neighbouring TUM Architecture Museum in the Pinakothek der Moderne. The exhibition The Gift highlights donated buildings - from the spectacular to the ordinary, from the extravagant to the genuinely useful - that show how unequal the relationship between giver and receiver can be. We will learn more about the two exhibition concepts in dialogue with experts on site.

Architecture and Art in Dialogue is a cooperation of the Sammlung Goetz, FILOMELE and guiding architects munich.
