Architecture and Art in Dialogue

Today, art is presented in more and more places that go beyond the usual museum conventions. These include privately run art and exhibition spaces, as well as studio buildings that serve as work and production sites for creative professionals. It is precisely for this reason that these more unconventional places provide an interesting breeding ground for the dialog between art and architecture and make an important contribution to society.

In our second anniversary tour, we look behind the scenes at two places that could not be more different - places where art is presented and created.

In 2021, the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung, a non-profit foundation for the promotion of contemporary art and science, opened the BlackBox, a very special exhibition space in the heart of the so called Parkstadt Schwabing in the north of Munich. On the ground floor of the building, designed by raumstation architects, the generously proportioned rooms offer the opportunity to present large-scale photographs and room-sized installations from the foundation's collection to the public in curated temporary exhibitions. In April, we will discuss this important site for architecture and art in Munich, accompanied by a visit to the exhibition Love, Maybe - Intimacy and Desire in Contemporary Art

We then visit the Domagk studios (DomagkAteliers) on the site of the former army base. Between 2016 and 2019, the former artists' colony will become DomagkPark, with around 2,000 apartments and 500 jobs. The vibrant neighbourhood offers more than just housing, with a wide range of social and cultural infrastructure. With around 100 studios and a spacious exhibition hall, the creative area is one of the largest artist studios in Europe. The studios are rented to artists living in Munich for a period of five years through a jury process organised by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. Together we will visit the site and the studios of Janina Roider and Raphael Weilguni and get to know their work first hand

Architecture and Art in Dialogue is a cooperation of the Sammlung Goetz, FILOMELE and guiding architects munich.
